I can't believe that the kittens haven't mauled the chicken yet. Don't cats stalk chickens as a matter of course??
I think chickens might be a bit too big for cats to hunt. I could see a very big tomcat taking one down, but otherwise, I think the chicken would claw/peck the cat enough that they would try to find something smaller.
